AP WORLD HISTORY 2013-2014 SUMMER ASSIGNMENT
*** You’ll need your own lined paper to do this assignment ***
I am excited for the upcoming year and hope you are too! Our book has 40 chapters and we have two weeks in August, four in September, four in October, three in November, three in December, three in January, four in February, four in March, three in April and two in May, when the AP test is conducted. That makes 32 weeks. In addition, our goal is to finish the book a month early and review the material for the year so that everything is fresh (or refreshed) in your mind when you are taking the exam. That makes 28 weeks for 40 chapters.
Over the summer, therefore, your job is to read chapters 1-5 very carefully and answer questions in your own words related to the readings from the sheet provided. No one’s answers will be exactly the same, and some will be better than others. Our goal as a class is to see what factors go into writing good answers in world history, so that your answers can get better and better each week as we do a new chapter. We will review the answers briefly when we get back, and there will be a test over these chapters, the Foundations Era, on the very first Friday.
This is not required, but if you have some free time online, check:

Watch the BBC documentaries “Walking with Prehistoric Monsters”,
“Walking with Dinoaurs”, “Walking with Beasts” and “Walking with Cavemen” on
Youtube or Netflix (these go with Ch. 1);
Watch “The Western Tradition: Mesopotamia” on Youtube (this will be your least favorite but watch
it anyway), and the History Channel documentary called “Lost Science of the
Bible” (search that term on Youtube), all for Ch. 2;
Check out the PBS documentary “Pyramid” (search: Pyramid Macaulay PBS),
and listen to the song “Walk Like an Egyptian” by the Bangles, as well as “King
Tut” by Steve Martin for Ch. 3;
Watch the BBC documentary “Story of India” part 1 of 6 for Ch. 4, and
the History Channel documentary “Engineering an Empire: China” on Youtube.
If you are confused about anything or can’t find something you want to
see online, email me at hudsonfla@gmail.com and I’ll be happy to send you the exact
link.
Have a great summer! I know it takes over an hour to read each chapter
carefully, and that takes discipline. I respect your decision to undertake this
challenge and promise you that I will work as hard as I can to help you in your
quest.
Mr. Tamm
I was reading this but couldn't figure out where the questions are for each chapter?
